“The discovery of agriculture was the first big step toward a civilized life. ” (Arthur Keith ) That means that agriculture played a vital role in the economy of every nation. It was the key development that led to the rise of human civilization, creating food. The word “agriculture” means “in fields” and is the sector of an economy concerned with the production of food, consumption, and for the export of the goods to external markets and trades. It is divided in branches like agronomy, horticulture that is the growing of fruits and flowers etc.
Agriculture developed over the centuries and each innovation caused changes in the human life. The primary agricultural products consisted of crop plants for the people food, animal feed, and domestic animal which were kept for sale. On the one hand it keeps the economy running and helps people to survive, on the other hand we all know that many people in the third world is suffering due to poverty and starvation. Less developed economies are typically agricultural.
The institutions should encourage the modernization of agriculture as a sector to support the growth of industry and services. It make life more easy for people because it is a way of supplying the basic human needs. Agriculture is still a basic part of economy in the world of today. Firstly, it has the main contribution to the Gross Domestic Production (GDP) that is declining over the years. At the same time, the productivity has been increasing . Also it has impact in other branches.
It stimulates trades, industry and tourism other sectors in the economy can be even more successful. About half the world’s workers are employed in agriculture more than in any other industry. Secondly, agriculture is important because it creates the first inputs for most firms in different industries. Companies receive the first material and transform it into output or final products for consumers. It is clear if the prices of these inputs rise it brings the highest cost for the company. Necessarily they will sell their products with the highest prices in the market.
Thirdly, lots of agricultural products in many countries are not produced due to weather conditions or for many other reasons so these countries agreed to do business with the nations that possess these goods. It brings very profits for consumers and increase volume of global agricultural trade. It is important to keep in mind that it supplies materials for two other basic needs, clothing and shelter and provides materials used in making many industrial products and medicines. Many of the medicines are made of plants that grow in various parts of the world.
Finally, agriculture is an important aspect of every society for its social, economical and environmental growth. Without it the world would not be like it is today. Each step that individuals or farmers take benefits them, you, families, and the world on a whole. For you and me, agriculture is a part of our day in every way.
